Siri & NotifyMe - How to set up (experimental)

Siri support is a simple workaround - when you speak a reminder to Siri, it is saved to Reminders.app on iOS 5. The reminder is then synced to iCloud, then to iCal on your running Mac. NotifyMe Desktop on Mac retrieves the reminder from iCal (iCal does not have to be running, just NotifyMe).

Requirements:

  • iPhone 4S with Siri enabled
  • Mac OS Lion 10.7.2 or higher
  • NotifyMe Desktop (for Mac) 1.1 or higher
  • NotifyMe for iPhone

How to set up:

  • Set Reminders.app on your iPhone to use an iCloud list
  • In iCal on your Mac, make sure you see the Reminders sidebar (Menu -> View -> Show reminders)
  • Set iCal to use iCloud reminders list (Menu -> File -> New Reminder list -> iCloud)
  • In NotifyMe Desktop preferences, enable iCal syncing for your account with the iCloud reminder list
  • Speak a reminder to Siri, wait for at least 1 minute for iCloud and NotifyMe to sync

NotifyMe for Mac must be running when you speak the reminder to Siri.

Hint: to avoid duplicate alerts, disable alerts for Reminders.app in iPhone Settings -> Notifications.
